The D.O. Montsant, where this winery is located is horse shoe shaped appellation that surrounds the D.O. Priorat on three sides. It should have been included on the Priorat appellation but was excluded when it was designated.
The grapes for this wine come from vineyards that are 30 years-old on average that are located on the towns of Darmos and Cornudella. The soils are similar to Priorat with Montsant being a bit more complex with a mixture of slate (llicorella), sandy clay and chalk. The varietal, Cariñena, was planted on sandy clay soil; Syrah on chalky soils and the Garnacha on slate, llicorella.
The grapes are hand-harvested. The wine is fermented for 15 days in stainless steel closed tanks. It was aged for more than 4 months in French and American oak barrels before bottling.
PRODUCTION: 2,500 cases for the US.
